New giant pandas to make debut on Nov. 6 at Zoo Atlanta

• Male Ping Ping and female Fu Shuang arrived Sept. 27 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and were transported to the zoo, where they are undergoing a routine quarantine.
• The pandas are in Atlanta under a new conservation research agreement between the zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association.

• Zoo Atlanta is one of three zoos in the U.S. — and the only one in the Southeast — with giant pandas.

Zoom in: Zoo Atlanta said its panda habitat was updated with "many new features designed with giant panda wellbeing in mind," including expanded day rooms, new interior climbing structures and a pool.

• Additional climbing features are installed on the outdoor portion of the habitat, the zoo said.
• New water features and a large sculpture "celebrating a hopeful future for wildlife and the role of the giant panda as a global animal ambassador for peace and harmony" are also on display.

Catch up quick: Zoo Atlanta announced earlier this year that the pandas would return but didn't specify when.

• China's President Xi Jinping confirmed last month during a meeting with President Trump that the pandas would arrive at the zoo.

Flashback: The grove is named after philanthropist Arthur M. Blank, who's supported Zoo Atlanta's giant panda program for more than two decades.

• The Robert W. Woodruff Foundation donated a $6 million grant needed to renovate the panda habitat.

What's next: The Zoo encourages people to buy items from its Animal Wish List to help maintain the grove and help Ping Ping and Fu Shuang settle into their new home.
