Bottoms, Jackson clash over Flock cameras, data centers in Georgia debate

Topics included:

Flock cameras: Both candidates argued that Flock's license-plate readers and other surveillance tech can help during emergencies and crime-solving but need tighter restrictions on who can access the data.

• Bottoms said she was not opposed to — and then proceeded to call for — a moratorium on the installation of new Flock cameras.

Jackson opposed the idea, saying technology could address misuse: "There are 15 people at Georgia Tech who can solve this in one week."

Health care: Bottoms doubled-down on expanding Medicaid and increasing access to mental health services.

• Jackson, who previously said he would stop short of full Medicaid expansion, said on Tuesday that he'd "expand Medicaid to cover everybody" without offering specifics.
• He said he would be insurance companies' "biggest nightmare" and would negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies to drive down costs.

Data centers: Jackson said he won't support a data center proposal unless the development has local backing, meets federal environmental standards, and comes with community benefits like reducing residents' energy bills or property taxes.

• Bottoms has called for a pause on new data centers to give local governments and communities time to draft policies.

Elections: Bottoms said she was worried about President Trump's rhetoric surrounding Georgia's midterm election.

• If elected, Bottoms said, she would pass a new law that would expand voting hours and make Election Day a holiday.

Jackson said he thinks recent updates to the state's election laws championed by Gov. Brian Kemp have made the process more secure.

• He denied Bottoms' accusations that he told a supporter that Kemp planned to use the National Guard at polling places.

Unexpected line of the night: "I don't know about you but my plumber drives a Mercedes," Jackson said while discussing job opportunities for Gen Z and the need to expand pathways into the trades for young people.

What's next: Advanced voting starts on Oct. 13. Find your polling place.
