A new design for Georgia Tech's $70 million upgrade of Bobby Dodd Stadium includes primo VIP areas, new seats and more.
Why it matters: Instead of tearing down and rebuilding one of the South's coolest stadiums — we'll fight to the death defending that position — Tech is modernizing it.
Zoom in: Updated details released this week include 12,500 chairback seats to replace flat bleacher seating, makeovers of premium suites and more.
The changes build on the Tech athletic department's $500 million "Full Steam Ahead" enhancement program announced in 2024.
In the weeds: An earlier design would have reduced the capacity to about 42,000. By adjusting the chairback-seat design to accommodate the stadium's narrow tread depths, planners were able to preserve capacity at roughly 50,000.
If you want an extremely detailed explanation of how tread depths — essentially the distance between rows — played into chairback seat choices, check out Tech's official announcement.
What's next: Tech officials say 100 improvements to the game day experience will be revealed this summer.
