"It's reaching almost absurd levels. It's been years of just sitting there, half built. It's sad and pathetic."
ā David McNair, a Charlottesville, Va., journalist, speaking to the AJC about developer John Dewberry's unfinished hotel project in Virginia.
Catch up quick: This past week, the Atlanta City Council voted to use the city's blight tax to prod Dewberry to do something with his hollowed-out Campanile building at Peachtree and 14th streets.
The penalty, which has never been used, would increase Dewberry's city property taxes from roughly $90,000 to more than $2.3 million until he puts the tower back into use, according to reports.
The other side: Dewberry, who has said that the Midtown project is in the works, did not respond to the AJC's request for comment.
