WABE, Atlanta's NPR affiliate, recently raised more than $1.1 million to help shore up funding gaps nearly a year after Congress voted to end funding for public media outlets.
Why it matters: The station said the fundraising effort was part of a larger effort to close the $1.9 million gap in federal funding, which represented about 13% of its budget.
What they're saying: WABE CEO Jennifer Dorian said the organization was "amazed at the momentum" of support it received from community supporters.
"We are beyond grateful, and we still have work to do to close the gap from federal defunding, so we'll invite and engage our community throughout the year."
State of play: A federal judge late last month blocked the Trump administration's executive order that would have ended federal funding for NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service, or PBS.
What we're watching: WABE said in a press release its fundraising efforts will include a strategy of engaging the community through events, memberships and soliciting major gifts.
