This past week I grabbed lunch at Muchacho's newest location on Hemphill Avenue near Georgia Tech.
Why it matters: The popular restaurant and bar on the Beltline's Eastside Trail is testing the appetite of West Midtowners and Tech students for tacos and drinks in a mellow setting.
Zoom in: Regulars of the original restaurant in Reynoldstown will recognize the day and night dinner and drinks menu. Think tacos, bowls and "super sandos."
I got the avocado toast with, for some reason, chips and guacamole, all of which were delightful.
Vibes: Orange, open, chill, and plenty of plants.
I visited on a rainy day soon after the location opened, so the expansive outdoor seating area wasn't in use. The place stayed packed during lunch.
Come spring, when the weather cools and outdoor landscaping could provide shade and a buffer from nearby traffic, it should be a good spot.
What we're watching: Whether the Hemphill location will have the same energy as the original, which is a bustling destination thanks to its prime spot along the Beltline.
What's next: On Sat. April 4, the Hemphill location will host the inaugural MuchachoFest. Expect a skate park, live music, fortune teller and more.
