Georgia House and Senate get a $22 million facelift

By the numbers: According to the Georgia Building Authority:

👷 More than 500 architects, engineers, trade contractors and laborers spent a total 350,000 hours on the project.

😳 Crews used 180,000 pounds of steel scaffolding to hold up a false floor roughly 100 feet from the floor so workers could hand-paint the ceilings.

🇺🇸 The carpets were made in Dalton, the carpet capital of the world — and they're the first ones in the Georgia Capitol to be made in the United States.

🔌 More than 190,000 feet of wires and cables are under the floor in the House.

🧑‍🎨 Crews used up 250 gallons of paint and approximately 3,000 linear feet of hand painted canvas.

Context: The $22 million project is the first phase of a roughly $83 million project to renovate the Capitol.

• It's also part of the larger $392 million plan to build new office space and refresh the structure that was originally completed in 1889.
