Nine Atlanta restaurants retained their Michelin stars, according to a press release that appears to have been mistakenly published ahead of the famed guide's Monday night ceremony in Greenville, S.C.
Why it matters: Atlanta continues to stand tall among the region's culinary capitals, with restaurants recognized for their exceptional creativity, consistency and craftsmanship.
The intrigue: The press release was published under Michelin's name on a wire service the organization typically uses, and it includes a comprehensive list of newly starred restaurants and judges' comments.
- The honorees are expected to be named publicly in a South Carolina ceremony Monday night.
- A screenshot of an internal Michelin email reviewed by Axios acknowledges "that confidential information was released," and instructs recipients to forward inquiries to the company's spokesperson.
- Axios received an out-of-office reply to our confirmation request. But Axios reporters spoke with named restaurateurs in multiple cities on the list, and each confirmed they were invited to Monday's ceremony.
Driving the news: Michelin's inaugural American South list features 10 restaurants with one star and one with two stars.
- Emeril's in New Orleans landed two Stars.
- The selection spans 228 restaurants across 44 cuisine types, plus 50 Bib Gourmands and four special awards.
The following Atlanta restaurants retained their One Michelin Star distinction:
- Atlas
- Bacchanalia
- Hayakawa
- Lazy Betty
- Mujō
- Omakase Table
- O by Brush
- Spring
- The Chastain
Zoom in: Bacchanalia and The Chastain were again recognized with Michelin Green Stars, honoring their dedication to sustainable gastronomy.
Flashback: Atlas, Bacchanalia, Hayakawa, Lazy Betty and Mujō were awarded the one-star designation by Michelin in 2023.
- Last year, O By Brush, Omakase Table, Spring and Staplehouse earned their star.
The city also welcomed several new "recommended" restaurants in this year's American South selection, reflecting its continued growth and culinary diversity. They include:
- Avize
- Best BBQ (Chamblee)
- Fawn (Decatur)
- Lucky Star
- Madeira Park
- Pho House (Duluth)
- Ryokou
What's next: Michelin formally recognizes its honorees in a South Carolina ceremony Monday evening. How to watch.
