Rivian to open new headquarters along Atlanta Beltline

The latest: Rivian said in a press release that it will utilize the top floor and lobby of space in the Junction Krog District building along the Atlanta Beltline's Eastside Trail.

• About 100 employees will be at the new headquarters by the end of the year, with a total of 500 onsite workers once the space is fully built out.

What they're saying: Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said in a press release the company is "excited" to open its headquarters in Atlanta.

• "Atlanta embodies so much that makes Georgia great — top talent, exceptional creativity, and a desire to always be moving forward," he said.
• Mayor Andre Dickens said the new office "reflects how Atlanta continues to engage the community in bold, creative ways."

Catch up quick: Rivian last year halted construction on its 2,000-acre compound roughly 50 miles east of Atlanta, straddling Walton and Morgan counties.

• The $5 billion endeavor is one of the largest economic development projects in Georgia, receiving a $1.5 billion tax incentive package and the promise of 7,500 new jobs to match.

• In January, the Department of Energy under the Biden administration closed on a $6.5 billion loan to Rivian so it could resume construction.

Caveat: Rivian's economic development agreement requires it to meet 80% of its $5 billion investment and 7,500 jobs by Dec. 31, 2030, and maintain them through 2049, the state previously told Axios.

What's next: Rivian plans to start making vehicles in Georgia in 2026.
