Hell hath no fury like an Atlantan who's asked to pay for parking.
Driving the news: Lee + White, the mixed-use hub along the Atlanta Beltline's Westside Trail, announced plans Wednesday to charge for parking after two hours and double the number of bike racks.
How it works: You get there, you park, it's free for two hours.
From two to five hours, you will have to pay $5. People who park for five to 12 hours will pay $10.
What they're saying: Some commenters on the mixed-use complex's Instagram announcement said the policy would hurt businesses and prompt people to park on nearby residential streets.
Reality check: Matt Garbett of Thread ATL, an urbanism advocacy group, told Axios the new fees are a step in the right direction but "not enough to encourage walking and cycling. We need to put a price on driving. "
The bottom line: As Atlanta grows denser and more populous, the space we occupy comes at a premium.
What we're watching: In 2026, the Beltline will launch a pilot autonomous shuttle program between the West End MARTA station and Lee + White.
