Cursive, the handwriting style that made you feel like a Victorian poet, is coming back to Georgia classrooms.
Driving the news: Georgia's new English language arts standards taking effect in July require students to learn handwriting starting in kindergarten and cursive specifically in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.
Why it matters: Writing in cursive, which is faster and flows smoother than writing block letters, helps students focus on their thoughts more than the form, Sarah Welch of the Georgia Department of Education told Georgia Recorder.
"If they're putting so much emphasis on forming the letters and writing the words, that's taking away their ability to really focus on organizing and expressing their ideas clearly."
