Portman Holdings' controversial proposal to build a mixed-use residential development along the Atlanta Beltline and Piedmont Park goes before the Atlanta City Council today for a potential make-or-break vote.
Driving the news: Council is expected to weigh in today on whether to rezone Amsterdam Walk, a former-warehouse-complex-turned-retail-center along the Eastside Trail, into up to 1,100 apartments spread over three buildings and divided by plazas.
The big picture: Portman's plan, which has already been scaled back twice to address Virginia-Highland and Morningside-Lenox Park residents' traffic and density concerns, is a temperature check on how much eastside Atlantans want their communities to grow.
State of play: Council members Matt Westmoreland, Alex Wan and Mary Norwood say they'll vote against the rezoning, Rough Draft Atlanta reported.
Watch: City Council convenes at 1pm and starts meetings with proclamations and public comment.
