The National Hurricane Center recently released its final report on Hurricane Helene.
Why it matters: At least 37 deaths in Georgia are linked to the storm after it carved its way through the state last September, the center said.
Here are three eye-opening findings from the report:
At least 249 people across seven states died from the storm, which The Weather Channel said is the highest of any mainland U.S. tropical cyclone since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Helene is the seventh costliest U.S. hurricane, with damages amounting to an estimated $78.7 billion (UGA calculated Georgia's agriculture and timber losses to be around $5.5 billion).
39 tornadoes spawned from the storm, including an EF1 tornado in Wheeler County in southeast Georgia that killed two people.
