Atlanta offers amnesty to traffic violators who failed to show up to court

Atlanta Municipal Court is offering an amnesty program for people who committed traffic offenses, but did not appear for their court dates.

Why it matters: The program allows people to resolve their cases "without fear of arrest," the city said Monday.

How it works: Atlanta's amnesty program, which runs through April 21, is only for traffic-related offenses (speeding, running red lights, etc.). It does not apply to code enforcement citations.

Anyone with failure to appear arrest warrants will have that charge waived.

What's next: Municipal Court will hold special hearings for these cases starting April 14.

Cases will be heard beginning at 1pm Monday through Thursday and at 9am Friday.
