Atlanta is getting a professional table tennis team

The "first pro table tennis league" in America is adding an Atlanta team.

Driving the news: Major League Table Tennis announced Thursday that the Atlanta Blazers and New York Slice would join eight other cleverly named teams like the Florida Crocs, Chicago Wind and Portland Paddlers.

Catch up quick: Launched in 2023 by software entrepreneur Flint Lane, the league aims to ride America's wave of fascination in the global sport.

In January, the league signed its first-ever national TV deal with CBS Sports.

Zoom in: Suzi Battison, Atlanta's head coach, has a resume that includes competing in China and training U.S. national team players.

"Atlanta is an elite sports city, and we're excited to introduce fans to the speed, skill, and excitement of MLTT," Battison said in a statement.

What's next: The Atlanta team steps up to the table in September 2025. Details about the team's venue will be available around that time, league spokesperson Matt Parker told Axios.

The league expects to close the franchise deal with the new team owners in the next two months, Parker said.
