Man's death sparks review of encampment clearings

• Dickens addressed the issue after Bernice A. King held a moment of silence for Taylor. The mayor highlighted Atlanta's $60 million investment in combating homelessness, a plan to provide housing and services for individuals living on the streets.
• He framed the funding as a broader commitment to building a thriving, inclusive city. "We are working to ensure every person in our city has a safe and secure place to live," Dickens said.

Zoom in: At a Friday night vigil, Nolan English of Traveling Grace Ministries said Taylor had lived on the street for 10 years and was "an upstanding, outstanding person," the AJC reports.

State of play: Dickens has said the city will review its policies for clearing encampments after Taylor's death.

• Cathryn Vassell, CEO of Partners for Home, the city's homeless services agency, noted in a statement that outreach workers had been engaging with members of the Old Fourth Ward encampment since April 2024 to connect them with housing and services.
