Atlanta's Peach Drop returns for New Year's Eve

Atlanta's trademark New Year's Eve tradition will return later this month to welcome 2025.

Why it matters: The free New Year's Eve Peach Drop Festival, which the city says attracts tens of thousands of people, is a bucket list item for anyone who calls Atlanta home.

Driving the news: Headlining the city's event will be hometown hip-hop hero Big Boi, with radio personality Ryan Cameron emceeing the festivities.

Also performing that night will be rock band Neon Trees, musician RES and other local artists.

Zoom in: The festival starts at 6pm Dec. 31 at Underground Atlanta. The main event — the Peach Drop — takes place at midnight.

What they're saying: Mayor Andre Dickens said the event is happening in Downtown, a place that's undergoing a "truly historic and transformative renaissance."

By the numbers: The City Council in October approved a $650,000 agreement with Live Nation Entertainment to produce this year's event.

Flashback: Atlanta officials canceled the 2023 Peach Drop to ring in 2024 due to the city allocating resources to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, according to the AJC.

It was called off in 2019 due to issues at the Underground site and in 2020 and 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic, Fox 5 reported.
The Peach Drop was brought back in 2022 to celebrate 2023's arrival.
