Redemption is the theme of this weekend for Georgia's premier football teams, unless you're Georgia Tech.
State of play: The Falcons are coming off a brutal loss to the meddling Saints and UGA looked listless in their defeat against Ole Miss.
Yes, but: The Yellow Jackets saved the weekend for fans in the state after a major home upset against the No. 4 Miami Hurricanes.
The intrigue: It doesn't get any easier for the Bulldogs as they host the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers Saturday at 7:30pm ET.
- This will be UGA's fifth game against a ranked opponent and their third in the last four.
- They've gone 2-2 so far, but their tough schedule has won them few favors with the College Football Playoff committee as they slipped nine spots to No. 12 despite having the toughest strength of schedule to start the season.
- A loss Saturday for Georgia would all but end their hopes for a playoff berth.
Falcons postseason push
Atlanta had a chance to go to New Orleans, beat a two-win team and take an impressive command of the NFC South. But they didn't.
The good news: The second place Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost too and the Falcons kept their two-game lead atop the division.
What's next: With seven games left, Atlanta still is very much in control of its own destiny. The Falcons head to Denver Sunday to face an old foe in head coach Sean Payton before a well-timed bye week.
- Atlanta has two tough road games in the home stretch of the season: the Washington Commanders and Minnesota Vikings, but they also have some very winnable games.
- Wrapping up the division as early as possible should be the main goal for the now 6-4 Falcons and would be a welcome sign for a team that's gone 7-10 for three consecutive seasons.
How to watch: Atlanta takes on the Broncos Sunday at 4:05pm ET on Fox.
Burnt ends: How about those Yellow Jackets? Tech is officially bowl eligible after its sixth win of the season. They are off this week after their stunning upset.
- Mercer is on the road against No. 10 Alabama for a 2pm kickoff, Georgia Southern hosts Troy at 4pm and Georgia State hosts Arkansas State at 5pm.
