Georgia state legislators have drawn political districts to their partisan advantage, so competition at the state level this year is low.
The big picture: Many of these races are uncontested, meaning candidates are running against no one — and so even though they appear on Georgia's voters ballots, Election Day won't really determine some voters' representation inside the Gold Dome.
Zoom in: The outskirts of metro Atlanta suburbs are some of most competitive statehouse battlegrounds.
Key races:
State House District 42 (Smyrna): Democratic Socialist candidate Gabriel Sanchez faces Republican challenger Diane Jackson after ousting incumbent Rep. Teri Anulewicz in May's primary election.
State House District 53 (Sandy Springs): Incumbent Republican Rep. Deborah Silcox is running against Democratic attorney Susie Greenberg.
- Both ran unopposed in the May primary, with Greenberg earning several hundred more votes in the North Fulton district than the incumbent.
We're also watching: State Rep. Scott Hilton vs. Democratic challenger Laura Murvartian in Peachtree Corners; and state Rep. Matt Reeves vs. Democratic challenger Michelle Kang in Duluth.
