Atlanta United's Caleb Wiley makes U.S. Olympics soccer roster

Homegrown Atlanta United wunderkind Caleb Wiley is heading to Paris to compete in the 2024 Olympics.

Why it matters: The 19-year-old defender, who attended Morningside Elementary School, rose through the Five Stripes ranks to become one of the teams' most closely watched stars.

Fun fact: Caleb's dad, Chris, cofounded metro Atlanta's Oz Pizza chain.

State of play: Wiley is the only Five Stripes player to make the cut. He and his teammates compete against host country France on July 24.

But first: Atlanta United plays Indy Eleven on July 9 in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.

The away game could possibly be Wiley's last for Atlanta, writes Sydney Hunte for Scarves and Stripes, citing Wiley's busy play schedule and trading rumors linking the player to Chelsea and Strasbourg.
