Atlanta Hawks take Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft

Zoom in: The 19-year-old hails from France and is the second international player in a row to be drafted first overall. The Spurs' Victor Wembanyama, also of France, went No. 1 in the 2023 draft.

• Risacher plays on the wing and will probably slot in to the Hawks lineup as a small forward. He possesses great athleticism and uses his height and length well on defense, something Atlanta sorely needs.
• Yes, but: His shot creation and free throws are two areas that will need major improvements as he makes the leap to the NBA.

The intrigue: Fellow French prospect Alex Sarr topped many draft boards early on but following the NBA combine, Sarr declined to privately workout with the Hawks.

• Rumors also swirled about Atlanta's interest in UConn big man Donovan Clingan.

What's next: The looming question for the Hawks' backcourt still remains: what to do about the Trae Young and Dejounte Murray pairing. Free agency starts Sunday at 6pm and the Hawks could try to trade one, both or neither of the two as deals around the league start to shape up.
