Garth Lagerwey, the president and CEO of Atlanta United, loves history, hair metal and a good Game of Thrones podcast. Here's his daily media diet.

📱 First tap of the day: First is CNN and ESPN to find out what's happening in the world.

🧑‍💻 Throughout the day: I read sports, obviously, plus a mix of history and politics, which are two of my biggest interests.

  • I like Sports Business Journal and The Athletic. You can get MLS news, but also European news. They're gonna cover the Falcons, the NFL, and the bigger stories that are happening in my industry.

📺 Currently streaming: My wife and I have three kids, and we have to distract them from time to time, so we have Disney Plus.

  • The last series I watched was "Alexander the Great: Making of a God." I haven't seen "Shogun" yet, but I'm interested. If there's ever a show pitched directly to me, it was Better Call Saul.

ğŸŽ¶ Playlist: If I'm on my own in the car, on the way to work, I'm going back to the teenage years. I'm on SiriusXM Hair Nation. Really classy stuff like that.

  • If the kids were in the car it's probably Blink-182, Chainsmokers. I have an awful singing voice on top of everything else, so they encourage me not to do that.

ğŸŽ§ Podcast: "Talking Thrones," a podcast about the Game of Thrones streaming universe. It is as nerdy as nerdy gets. The host is the most knowledgeable about the show and prequels in development.

  • I also like Lex Fridman's long-form conversations with people like Elon Musk.

📚 Bedside table: I recently read "The Mongoliad" by Neal Stephenson, who's probably my favorite fiction author. He can combine history, science, technology and futurism.

  • The book is about Genghis Khan's conquest and the successor empires. It's historical fiction told through the eyes of the people there. He's great at incorporating all this detail into the fictional narrative he wants to spin.

📲 Most used app: MLS Soccer. And I probably tap the Weather app more than I should. I have this job, but then I have a second job: driving my children to their various functions.

What's next: Atlanta United plays their first home game this season on Saturday against the New England Revolution.

The conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity.
