The world’s oil and gas companies will undergo annual reviews by the International Energy Agency to assess how they’re doing on climate change and clean energy issues.
Driving the news: The group released a report on Sunday showing that oil and gas producers, including those owned by governments, spend on average just 1% of their total capital expenditure outside oil and gas.
Heavy rain has triggered flash floods in the fire-ravaged Australian state of Queensland, SBS News reports. New South Wales also got a soak and further rainfall and thunderstorms were expected. But bushfires continued to burn over the weekend.
The state of play: There were over "50 reports of flooded roads across Queensland's southeast," per SBS, which notes flooded theme parks were forced to close. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were forecast for Victoria, where 15 fires were still burning, according to the Guardian. In NSW, over 1,300 firefighters were tackling flames across "69 firegrounds," the state's Rural Fire Service said, with 19 fires still not contained.
A "sprawling winter storm" that's creating hazardous travel conditions across the Midwest and Great Lakes region has caused at least one death, and it's set to spread the Northeast on Sunday, the National Weather Service warns.
What's happening: Frigid temperatures were set to sweep east into Sunday and Monday, with the coldest conditions in the Midwest, with heavy snow forecast across the Great Lakes and further north along with blizzard conditions in Iowa, Minnesota and the Dakotas.
