Homeownership rate in the U.S. is lower than you think, new research finds

A line chart that compares U.S. homeownership rates under traditional and new measures from 2006 to 2024. The traditional rate fell from 67.3% to 63.1% by 2015, then edged up to 65.3% in 2024. The new measure dropped from 55.1% to 49.4% in 2016, then recovered to 53.1%.
