Republican who voted to impeach Trump retiring from Congress

• He is also one of several Trump-skeptic Republicans who are retiring or resigning, including Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and, more recently, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
• Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.), the only other sitting Republican to have voted for Trump's impeachment, has filed to run for reelection.

What they're saying: "I am announcing today that I will not seek reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives," Newhouse said in a statement.

• Newhouse said he has "confidence that there are now qualified and serious people expressing interest in this office," adding, "Central Washington will have a strong, capable leader to whom I can pass the torch."
• The Washington Republican made clear he won't resign early, saying he will "continue to serve my district with energy and enthusiasm until the end of my term."
• The Spokesman-Review was the first to report Newhouse's plans.

By the numbers: There were 10 House Republicans who crossed the aisle and voted to impeach Trump in 2021, but eight of them are now out of Congress.

• Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.), Peter Meijer (R-Mich.) and Tom Rice (R-S.C.) all lost their Republican primaries in 2022.
• Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), Fred Upton (R-Mich.), Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio) and John Katko (R-N.Y.) opted to retire in the face of tough reelection odds.
