Walmart unveiled its Black Friday plans Monday and said it will start the first of two sales on Veterans Day.
Why it matters: The world's largest retailer can have a massive effect on how and when other retailers hold their sales.
- Target kicks off holiday deals starting Nov. 1 with daily deals, the retailer announced Wednesday.
Flashback: The traditional holiday shopping season morphed during COVID, when more deals moved online and spread out consumer demand over longer periods of time.
- The early shopping trend has continued, in part to attract inflation-weary consumers facing year-end budget limits.
Between the lines: Walmart also announced it is expanding the test of its generative AI-powered shopping assistant to "make holiday shopping easier."
Walmart Black Friday sale dates
Zoom in: Walmart said it will hold two Black Friday sales events like last year.
- The sales "will feature thousands of must-have gifts and finds across toys, entertainment, home, fashion and much more," the company said.
Event 1: Deals start online Nov. 11 at noon ET for Walmart+ members and 5pm ET for all customers.
- The sale starts in stores Friday, Nov. 15 at 6am local time.
Event 2: Deals begin Nov. 25 at noon ET for Walmart+ members and 5pm ET for all customers.
- The sale begins in stores Friday, Nov. 29 at 6am local time.
What they're saying: Latriece Watkins, Walmart executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, told Axios that customers are mindful of price and said the retailer is "committed to delivering the most competitive prices, especially on big-ticket items like televisions and personal electronics."
Walmart+ $49 membership deal
State of play: Walmart said its paid membership program is discounted for $49 now through Dec. 2.
- The regular price of an annual membership is $98 or $12.95 a month.
- Walmart+ includes free same-day delivery for orders $35 or more, a Burger King discount and other benefits like free Paramount Plus and a gas discount.
Walmart Cyber Monday sale
What's next: Walmart said its Cyber Monday deals start Sunday, Dec. 1 at 5pm ET for paid Walmart+ members and 8pm ET for all customers on Walmart.com and the app.
