Walmart adds benefit for members — a Burger King discount

• Restaurants including Burger King and McDonald's have rolled out new value meals to entice consumers to eat out instead of eating at home.
• Walmart, Target, Aldi and other stores have been cutting prices and growing budget-friendly store brands.

Burger King discount for Walmart+ members

Driving the news: Starting Thursday, Walmart+ members get 25% off Burger King digital orders, the retailer announced.

• Starting Sept. 16, members will also be able to receive a free Whopper every three months with any purchase, according to Burger King's website.

How it works: Walmart+ members link their membership with an existing Burger King Royal Perks account.

• Once the accounts are linked, Walmart+ members can visit the offers tab on the BK app or on bk.com, select a participating Burger King location, add the offer to the cart and place their order.

Between the lines: One-third of Burger King locations are less than two miles from a Walmart store, Walmart told Axios.

Walmart+ cost and benefits

The big picture: Walmart+ costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month and includes free same-day delivery for orders $35 or more and other benefits like free Paramount Plus and a gas discount.

Zoom in: Other companies have been partnering with other brands to drive loyalty and boost membership.

• Starbucks Rewards members can earn stars at the coffee giant and loyalty points when linking their accounts with Delta SkyMiles, Marriott Bonvoy and Bank of America.
