Walmart is bringing back its members-only sale early and getting ahead of Amazon's annual Prime Day sale in July.

Why it matters: It's the latest battle in the paid membership war and starts the summer shopping season early.

Driving the news: Walmart+ Week will be June 17 to 23, which is longer than last year's summer sale that lasted four days and coincided with Prime Day.

  • This year's sale goes beyond product deals, the retailer told Axios, and includes "seven days of deep discounts on gas, travel, and more."

Between the lines: Amazon has not announced a date for Prime Day 2024 but has said it will be in July.

  • Other retailers including Target, Best Buy and Kohl's usually run sales to compete with Prime Day.

Walmart+ Week 2024

Zoom in: For Walmart+ Week, the retailer said it is doubling its gas discount to 20 cents a gallon for fuel at Exxon and Mobil stations nationwide.

  • Members can earn up to 20% back in Walmart Cash on vacations booked through Walmart+ Travel.
  • During the sale, members can get one free Express Delivery without the usual $10 fee to get orders in under two hours.
  • Walmart will also have its "first-ever mystery offer" that will be revealed June 20, Venessa Yates, Walmart+ general manager and senior vice president, said in a blog post.

Walmart+ membership cost vs. Amazon Prime

By the numbers: Walmart+ costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month and includes free same-day delivery for orders $35 or more and other benefits like free Paramount Plus and a gas discount.
