Chick-fil-A is reportedly cooking up its own streaming platform and ordering original content.
Why it matters: The sea of streaming services could be getting more crowded if the Atlanta-based chain moves beyond chicken sandwiches.
Driving the news: Entertainment news site Deadline first reported Wednesday that Chick-fil-A has been working with a number of major production companies including major studios on family-friendly content.
- A 10-episode family-friendly game show from the company behind NBC's "The Wall" is planned, Deadline reports.
- The platform could launch later this year, Deadline said.
- Chick-fil-A spokesperson told Axios that the company didn't have "any news to share at this time."
Between the lines: A Chick-fil-A job posting for an entertainment producer late last year sheds light on the company's plans, according to the listing Axios viewed with internet archive site Wayback Machine.
- "We are looking to produce original entertainment — entertainment not necessarily about Chick-fil-A products or the Chick-fil-A brand," the listing notes.
- "This original programming is intended for Chick-fil-A's soon-to-be launched PLAY entertainment app and may include scripted podcasts and audio adventures, original animation, reality and game shows, and other live-action scripted or non-scripted programming."
Zoom in: Chick-fil-A Chairman Dan Cathy is a majority owner of Trilith Studios, the largest production facility in the state of Georgia, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
- Direct spending from TV and film producers in Georgia dropped by 37% in the fiscal year that ended June 30 compared to fiscal year 2023, the AJC reported.
The bottom line: Brands have been flocking to Hollywood for partnership deals that allow their corporate narrative to seep into culture and appeal to key constituencies by being entertaining, Axios' Eleanor Hawkins reports.
- Starbucks launched Starbucks Studios in June and partnered with Sugar23 to "produce original entertainment."
