Most Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ streaming plans will cost $1 to $2 more per month starting in mid-October, Disney announced Tuesday.
Why it matters: Rising costs for major streaming services — also known as "streamflation" — are already forcing more consumers to consider ad-supported plans.
- Streamers are pushing to bundle their services to retain subscribers and reduce churn.
Driving the news: The price hikes go into effect Oct. 17, come a year after Disney last raised its streaming prices.
- Disney+ also announced Tuesday it was adding "continuous playlists to its core subscription on-demand offering in the U.S."
Zoom in: The cost of most major streaming services have already increased by more than 40% since launch on average, Axios' Sara Fischer recently reported based on an analysis of the cheapest ad-free tiers.
- Disney+ and Apple TV+ have had the greatest increases, with both services hiking prices more than 100% since they first launched.
What we're watching: Disney will report its quarterly earnings Wednesday morning.
Disney+ price hike 2024
Disney+ Premium, the ad-free tier, is jumping to $15.99 a month, up $2 from $13.99 a month.
- This follows last year's $3 monthly hike.
- The basic plan with ads is going up $2 to $9.99 a month.
Between the lines: Ahead of the presidential election, all Disney+ subscribers will have access to ABC News Live starting Sept. 4, Disney said in its release.
Hulu price increase 2024
Hulu without ads is jumping by $1 to $18.99 monthly.
- The version with ads is going up $2 a month to $9.99 starting Oct. 17.
ESPN+ price 2024
ESPN+ with ads will cost $11.99 a month, up from $10.99.
- The annual plan increases by $10 to $119.99 a year starting in October.
Disney+ bundles
The Disney Bundle Duo Basic plan, which includes Disney+ and Hulu with ads, will increase to $10.99 a month, up from $9.99.
- The price for the Duo Premium bundle with no ads is not increasing and will stay at $19.99 a month.
