Driving the news: The White House is also using the Cabinet meeting to draw attention to what officials view as major accomplishments — and promises kept.

• Wednesday's rate cut by the Federal Reserve is atop that list — hard evidence that the battle against inflation has been won.

• Officials also want credit for the prisoner swap with Russia early last month and for lowering prescription drug prices.

The big picture: Before Biden dropped out of the race, his top advisers believed that his legislative record would be enough to secure re-election.

• Working with a closely divided Senate, Biden passed three consequential pieces of legislation: a bipartisan infrastructure bill, the Inflation Reduction Act and the Chips and Science Act.
• While some of the billions of dollars in those bills are out the door, nearly a trillion dollars hasn't been spent, Axios reported in May.

Between the lines: Some Democrats are convinced that many of Biden's policies will be difficult for Republicans to undo because of the billions of dollars flooding red states.
