1 big thing: Hurricane Idalia sweeps Southeast

Hurricane Idalia is rapidly moving across Georgia after pummeling Florida with damaging winds, heavy rains and severe storm surge.
- South Carolina and North Carolina are next, Axios' Andrew Freedman, Rebecca Falconer and Jacob Knutson write.
What's happening: The storm, now a Category 1 hurricane, is threatening to unleash flash floods across the Southeast.
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned citizens to have several days' worth of provisions. Officials in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina issued emergency warnings.
- At least two people died in separate rain-related car crashes in Florida, according to local media outlets.

Between the lines: The storm hit Florida's Big Bend region — where the panhandle meets the peninsula — at low tide.
- The timing spared the state from some of the worst possible damages. But officials still fear widespread destruction from severe storm surge that set records.
2. 📈 Hottest job benefit: Student loan relief

Why it matters: Student loan payments are set to resume in October after a long pandemic pause.
- Nearly 70% of the class of 2024 says debt will influence their job search, according to a Handshake survey of 1,148 students on the platform.

- 12-foot skeletons known as Skellys are moving into more neighborhoods, Axios' Kelly Tyko reports.
The giant creatures are being named by their owners and amassing large wardrobes that include Santa hats and Easter bunny ears.
- Katie Shealy, of Columbus, Ohio, is even bringing a Skelly to her wedding and making him a top hat.
Zoom in: Home Depot's Giant-Sized Skeleton is believed to have started the skeleton frenzy when it launched in 2020.
- It costs $299 and is constantly sold out on the store's website.
