We're tracking new businesses that have opened in Charlotte in 2026.

Why it matters: Openings remain steady, but local business owners say it's getting harder to stay open.

The big picture: Charlotte saw more than 120 new business openings in both 2024 and 2025 — and dozens more are expected this year.

Below is a list of the new restaurants we've reported on so far.

We've also gained a number of new bars, from a phone-free spot to a game cafe that also doubles as a wine bar.

• Antagonist is a Dilworth cocktail bar that locks your phone away for two hours.
• Fenian's Keep is an Irish pub in NoDa.
• Groovers Listening Bar is a popular Charleston-based listening bar with build-your-own glizzys.
• Mother of Dragons is a new game café and wine bar in southeast Charlotte.

• Thrift Pony's Camp North End location is hosting a vintage pop-up called Market on the Green tomorrow from 11am—5pm.

A DIY woodshop studio has opened in Charlotte's Belmont neighborhood, offering instructor-led classes where participants create custom home décor.

Why it matters: Board & Brush owner Buffy Wilkey hopes the space becomes a "third place" where people can gather, socialize and create outside of bars or restaurants.

How it works: Instructor-led classes run about two and a half to three hours, and you can choose from over 800 unique wood designs to customize.

• Wood projects range from bar trays to porch signs that you'll sand, stain and distress.
• The 925-square-foot space also features a small bar with beer and wine available for purchase.

If you go: Classes at Board & Brush can seat about 18 people.

• Prices range between $40—$80.
