Italian Eatery may be making a return to its south Minneapolis space — with the help of the group behind Travail.
Driving the news: An LLC tied to Travail co-owner James Winberg applied for a liquor license to operate in the Italian Eatery building under the name Italian Eatery x Travail, per public records.
What they're saying: A spokesperson for Travail told Axios there was no news to share about the project.
- The city is set to hear the application Tuesday afternoon.
Zoom out: If confirmed, it would be the second high-profile collaboration this year from the Travail team.
- The group is also working with the folks behind nationally acclaimed cocktail bar Meteor to open Stargazer in northeast Minneapolis.
In other restaurant news...
🍃 Hi Flora!, the south Minneapolis vegan eatery initially marketed as Minnesota's first THC restaurant, is shutting down Dec. 5.
- Owner Heather Klein said on Instagram that business dropped 50% after the hemp-derived THC tinctures customers could add to food were pulled in August due to new regulations. She also cited general issues obtaining permits.
🐎 Canterbury Park is getting a neighboring restaurant and entertainment venue.
- Boardwalk Kitchen & Bar will open just 25 feet from the Shakopee racetrack and will contain a "classic American" restaurant; a space for live music, sports and more called The Stable; and an 18,000-square-foot patio with trackside dining.
- Expect a spring 2025 opening, per a release.
🍩 YoYo Donuts is now open in Inver Grove Heights.
- It's the second location for the family-owned bakery and coffee shop and will have the same menu as the Minnetonka one, including vegan options.
😋 A family sports bar and restaurant is coming to the former Wooden Tub laundromat space in West St. Paul, per the West St. Paul Reader.
- The owner described the food concept as a "modern Texas style" with a Southern fusion style. Expect a 2025 opening.
