We might all be Irish on St. Patrick's Day, but the reality is that only 10% of Tampa Bay residents have Irish ancestry, according to the U.S. Census.
The big picture: The United States had an average Irish ancestry of 9.4% in 2022.
- New England and New York have significantly higher numbers, while Southern states are the least Irish. Florida's average is about 8%.
Zoom in: About 1 in 10 Tampa Bay residents claim Irish ancestry.
- Citrus County is the most Irish (at about 14%), ranking first in Tampa Bay and seventh in the state, per the data.
- Hernando, Sarasota and Pinellas counties are all above 12% too. Manatee and Pasco counties came in at around 11% and 10%, respectively.
- Hillsborough (7%) and Polk (6%), meanwhile, are the least Irish counties.
