Jimmy's Tacos had me at "birria grilled cheese," so I was excited to try it recently with my fiancé, Winston.
Dig in: The taco spot opened its second location in January in St. Petersburg's Grand Central District.
- The original location is in Ybor City, but the original original location was a food trailer in Los Angeles run by owner Jimmy Nunez's parents, who are both from Mexico, per the Tampa Bay Times.
Best bites: The birria eggrolls ($12.25) went so hard. Just look at that cheese pull.
- Winston also really loved his chorizo taco ($4).
Yes, but: After a last-minute change of heart, I ordered the quesabirria quesadilla ($15.50) — and the flavor just didn't pop.
- The queso dip also had a thicker consistency than I like.
The verdict: I still want to try the grilled cheese and other creative birria offerings on the menu like pizza and ramen, so I'm down to give it another shot.
