Tampa Bay scorches as East Coast faces dangerous heat

Amid a heat wave setting records across the East Coast, Florida is hardly being spared from scorcher after scorcher.

• Temperatures in the 90s are expected through the week in Tampa Bay, with humidity poised to push feels-like temperatures even higher.

Threat level: The UV index, which measures sunburn-causing radiation, will peak at very high or extreme levels at least through Friday.

• It's wise to limit outdoor activity when possible, particularly between 11am and 3pm. When you do venture outside, experts urge using sunscreen and wearing a hat and other coverings.
