Inside the Gasworx project, which aims to link downtown Tampa, Ybor City

Catch up quick: Gasworx is a 50-acre redevelopment project that, when completed, will include 5,000 residences, 500,000 square feet of office space, and 150,000 square feet of retail.

• Ybor City developer Darryl Shaw and real estate investment firm Kettler have invested $500 million into Gasworx, where more than 100 workers now crowd the site.
• La Unión Residence & Social Hall opened last year, delivering the neighborhood's first residential units. More residential units are expected in January, according to a press release.

What we're hearing: "We love Ybor, we think it's probably the best place in Tampa," said Graham Tyrrell, Kettler's managing developer of Florida. "That's why we're here, but it's really lacked a lot of residential density."

• "By creating that ... we create more people on the street," he said. "There's more vibrancy."

Zoom in: Construction crews are at work on a five-story building that will feature 140 residential units and 18,000 square feet of retail space.

• A 28,000-square-foot warehouse is being redeveloped into a marketplace with restaurants and shops, alongside a new, 100,000-square-foot office building.
• A 10-story residential tower with 376 units, 29,000 square feet of retail, and amenities like a rooftop pool and fitness center is also under construction.

What's next: These will be completed in late 2026 and early 2027.
