State lawmakers' 60-day marathon is in full stride — here's a look at what's nearing the finish line.

🐶 Trooper's law cleared its final committee stops in the state House and the state Senate. The measure would make it a third-degree felony to restrain an animal and leave it outside during a natural disaster.

If the legislation passes, it would take effect on Oct. 1, 2025.

Gun regulation rollback: A bill to lower the state's age limit to buy a gun from 21 to 18 for retail and private sales advanced in the state House.

It allows 18-year-olds to buy shotguns and rifles from a licensed dealer or private seller. Federal law still bars those under 21 from buying handguns from licensed dealers, but the bill lets them do so via private sales.
