That time Janis Joplin was arrested in Tampa

Zoom in: The late musician was known for her stage presence, and the crowd of about 3,500 was buzzing, per the Tampa Bay Times.

• As she began to perform "Summertime," the crowd rushed toward the stage and flooded the aisles. 

Friction point: Police officers at the show were worried about a fire hazard and tried to guide concertgoers back to their seats. 

• Joplin wasn't having it.  

"Don't f*** with those people," she yelled, according to the Times. 

• Then, after more cursing, she heckled a detective: "Hey mister, why are you so uptight?" she asked. "Did you buy a $5 ticket?" 

Police arrested her that night on two charges of "vulgar and indecent language." They let her finish her set before handcuffing Joplin and booking her into jail just after midnight.

• She posted bail an hour later and walked out in a fur coat and jacket, throwing up a peace sign.
