Zoom in: Gov. Ron DeSantis sent over 2,000 state personnel to help with debris removal in Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties — as well as smaller, cash-strapped locales — to take advantage of federal aid.

• Pinellas County Communications Director Barbra Hernandez and St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch acknowledged that the process of debris collection could take several months.
• Hernandez announced that the county will start collecting waste from unincorporated areas this week, while cities within the county will handle their own debris removal.

State of play: Pinellas County cleared 1,400 cubic yards of debris over the weekend, most of it vegetation blocking roads, according to the Times. St. Pete started on Friday.

• In Tampa, debris collection began on Friday, with over 60,000 cubic yards removed and an estimated 1 million cubic yards remaining. The city aims to finish debris removal in about 90 days.

• Hillsborough County is eyeing the same time frame, per the Times. Over 85,000 cubic yards of wreckage have been removed as of Monday. About 5 million more await collection.
• Pasco County estimates that about 70,000 cubic yards have been collected, but because damage assessments are still ongoing, officials can't measure how much debris will remain.
