Pet of the week: Adopt a black cat this Friday the 13th

Case in point: Bojack, this beautiful, sleek 2-year-old kitty who's tugging hearts at Pasco County Animal Services.

• This gentle boy is looking for a calm environment where he can come out of his shell at his own pace.
• "If you have the patience and love to offer Bojack a safe space to
  acclimate, you'll be rewarded with a loyal and captivating companion," his caretakers say.

Why he matters: Black cats are tougher to adopt out, some shelter workers say and studies show — in part because of their association with bad luck.

💭 Kathryn's thought bubble: Between my parents and my younger brother, we've got four black cats in the Varn family: Duval, CJ, Bella and Jesse.

• They bring so much joy to our lives and have such big personalities. Just yesterday morning, my dad sent me photos of Jesse sprawled on his back on my mom's lap with his legs sticking straight up.
• "A very normal morning," he wrote, but really, these kitties, who are as sweet and big-hearted as any cats I've met, keep life interesting — and cuddly.
