ZooTampa welcomed another adorable baby last week.

Driving the zoos: A Malayan tapir calf, not yet named, was born between Monday and Tuesday night to 18-year-old mother Ubi.

  • Her dad, Albert, is 13-years-old.

Why it matters: Malayan tapirs are classified as endangered, with an estimated 2,500 left in Thailand, Malaysia and the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Threat level: Agricultural deforestation, flooding caused by dam building for hydroelectric projects, and illegal trade have all contributed to habitat loss driving the population downward, according to the zoo.
