In the waters of Weeki Wachee Springs, just an hour north of Tampa, Florida's own real-life mermaids have been mesmerizing audiences for more than 75 years.
The latest: The State Archives of Florida recently digitized a batch of photographs showing the mermaids practicing and performing their elaborate underwater routines in the 1960s, during the heyday of such roadside attractions.
- They were taken by Bruce Mozert, a pioneer of underwater photography.
