Items believed to belong to Brian Laundrie as well as potential human remains were found in Carlton Reserve yesterday, FBI officials announced.

Driving the news: Laundrie's notebook and backpack, along with the possible partial human remains, were in an area that had been underwater until recently, FBI Tampa Special Agent Michael McPherson said at a press conference.

  • The Sarasota County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park connected to the reserve Wednesday afternoon, WFLA reports.

Why it matters: Police have been searching for Laundrie for a month. He's the only person of interest so far in the killing of his fianceé, Gabby Petito.

  • If the remains are his, it'll be an abrupt end to a case that spread like wildfire around the world.

Don't forget: Families of other missing women from Tampa Bay are trying to get those following this case to help find their loved ones.
