BTS is back — and headed to the Bay Area

Brace for the ticket queue — K-pop juggernaut BTS is coming to the Bay Area this May as part of their first world tour since completing mandatory military service.

Why it matters: The tour will follow a new album release on March 20 and will mark the group's first headline performances after a nearly four-year pause in group activities.

Driving the news: The septet will kick off the tour in South Korea in April before performing more than 70 dates across Asia, North America, South America, Australia and Europe.

They'll perform two nights at the Bay Area's Stanford Stadium, which seats more than 50,000 people, on May 16 and 17.

The big picture: Anticipation for BTS's comeback has steadily built since rapper Suga, the last member to finish military service, was released from his duties in June.

More than five years have passed since BTS, which debuted in 2013 and has achieved six No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, released a full-length studio album.
The record-breaking boy band has focused on solo activities since announcing a hiatus in 2022.

What's next: Presales for North American shows open Jan. 22. General sales will take place Jan. 24.

Expect pandemonium to follow.
