Bay FC sets women's soccer attendance record at Oracle Park

Bay FC and the Washington Spirit drew 40,091 fans to Oracle Park on Saturday, setting a National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) attendance record.
Why it matters: That's also the highest attendance in U.S. women's pro sports history — further proof that San Francisco is part of a women's sports surge as fandom, teams and leagues are booming.
State of play: Bay FC lost 3-2 with Forward Racheal Kundananji and defender Kelli Hubly scoring the team's two goals.
- The club is 12th place in the NWSL and still chasing a spot in the playoffs.
What's next: Bay FC returns home to PayPal Park on Sept. 6 to face first-place Kansas City Current.
- San Jose's PayPal Park will host the NWSL Championship in November.
