Rikki's — San Francisco's highly-anticipated first women's sports bar — has finally opened in the Castro.
The latest: Dozens of eager visitors crowded the new bar on opening night yesterday, including representatives from the Bay FC and the Valkyries, Mayor Daniel Lurie and District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman.
The bar is named after the late gay rights activist Rikki Streicher,
The vibe: The walls are adorned with women's sports memorabilia, motivational phrases and an inspiring quote from Streicher: "Sports are the great equalizer. It is perhaps the only time that it doesn't matter who you are but how you play the game."
Between the lines: The menu features signature cocktails, low ABV and nonalcoholic options, salads, bar bites and various dishes like a hot chicken "sammy" ($17) and house-made beet burger ($16).
What they're saying: "I'm over the moon," co-founder Sara Yergovich told Axios.
Sips to savor: Try Yergovich's favorite drink, the Ballhalla ($16), a sparkly purple cocktail inspired by the Valkyries made with white rum, plum brandy and guava — though she warns that "it's very strong."
If you go: Open Tuesday through Sunday at various times at 2223 Market St.
