San Antonio Marathon scores Nike partnership

The San Antonio Marathon is teaming up with Nike ahead of its second annual race weekend, Dec. 4–6.

Why it matters: The partnership — announced Wednesday — brings a global brand to the race, which is expected to draw more than 20,000 participants this year.

The latest: Nike will serve as the marathon's official brand partner, offering co-branded merchandise and experiences for runners.

Participants will be able to purchase exclusive Nike training shirts through race registration.
Nike branding will also appear across the marathon's online platforms, including its runner tracking and race results tools.

Zoom in: The partnership introduces a new competition for full marathoners called the "King and Queen of HiLLdebrand," named for the notoriously hilly San Antonio road.

The fastest male and female runners along a designated stretch of the course will receive premium Nike running gear.

Flashback: Last year's inaugural marathon sold out with 18,544 registered runners and generated an estimated $22 million in economic impact.
