A worker began preparing to remove the rainbow crosswalks in the heart of San Antonio's gay strip on Monday.
Catch up quick: Gov. Greg Abbott in October threatened to withhold funding from cities that don't remove "any and all political ideologies" from streets.
San Antonio sought an exemption for the crosswalks at North Main Avenue and Evergreen Street, but the state denied it.
The crosswalk removal — and the addition of rainbow sidewalks instead — was paused last week when Pride San Antonio and the Texas Conservative Liberty Forum sued the city over the legality of the process.
